We have all been bombarded by advertisements since we were young. They are all around us, the old ideas of advertising effectiveness have been made obsolete due to an excess of poor quality ads. So What makes an ad effective? That’s not an easy question to answer, and there isn’t a definite response – it depends on the product, on the brand. In the following segment (and in subsequent segments) I will explore a few unique and creative ads from around the world. You should notice that the only recurring theme is a unique, funny, and creative feel about the ads.

I got this post idea over the current news regarding the Burger King “Sacrifice For A Whopper” Ad campaign. If you haven’t heard, Facebook has dropped this campaign, citing a violation of their privacy policy. While some may think that this is bad news for BK, it’s actually quite the opposite. This unique and creative advertisement brought them TONS of media coverage (ie. free advertising). And now that they have been dropped by Facebook, they don’t have to worry about giving away any whoppers. Their marketing team just hit gold – I think somebody, somewhere just got a raise. On that note, let’s look at a few other (possibly well known) brilliantly creative advertising campaigns from around the world.

Unique Advertisements From Around The World

Let’s begin with a Dutch ad for Heineken. I would like to ad that I would LOVE to have this fridge. Seriously – I want it.

Here is an advertisement which is not only creative, but also focuses on it’s own importance. It effectively highlights the dangers of drunk driving through emotion:

The following is a Mr.Clean ad which appeared on a city street. It will not only get noticed, but is instantly recognizable (as a brand image). Look how CLEAN it is:

Let’s take a look at a simple but effective advertisement out of Canada, from professional advertiser Al Moran. This is for the Nova Scotian beer Alexander Keith’s. There is a great feeling in using the product to explain the new feature/use. Rather than splitting up the explanation of the product (beer) and then the new feature (now in an 8-pack instead of the usual 6-pack), we seem them together in just one effective image.

And finaly, let’s look at one from Japan. This is from the car company Honda, and is an excellent example of a Rube Goldberg machine. It fuses so many of the different aspects of the company. I haven’t seen this commercial in years, yet I still remember it. Instantly classic. Take a look:

Do You Have A Creative Advertisement?

I hope you have enjoyed this quick look at advertisements from around the world. I hope to make this a regular feature, as there are no shortage of new ads around us each day. If you have any creative advertisements yourself, remember that we offer a backlink for any ad which we use in our post. Advertisements can be a great asset when attempting to brand your website, and remember… Not all ads are created equally.
